2019 NHL Winter Classic

The 2019 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic, the league's 11th outdoor New Year's Day game, took place on January 1, 2019, at Notre Dame Stadium in Notre Dame, Indiana. The Boston Bruins defeated the Chicago Blackhawks, 4–2. This marked the Blackhawks' fourth Winter Classic (following 2009, 2015, and 2017) and their sixth outdoor game overall, with five of those coming in a six-year span. For the Bruins, it was their third Winter Classic appearance (after 2010 and 2016) and their first as the visiting team. The game was also the NHL's first outdoor contest held outside a team's immediate media market, as Chicago's market is adjacent to the South Bend area.

Goaltender Tuukka Rask made 36 saves for the Bruins in his 469th career game, setting a franchise record for most appearances by a goaltender. Boston's goals came from David Pastrnak, Patrice Bergeron, Sean Kuraly, and Brad Marchand. Brendan Perlini and Dominik Kahun scored for Chicago. The officials were referees Eric Furlatt and Francis Charron, with linesmen Matt MacPherson and Bryan Pancich.

Pre-game entertainment included a performance by the Jacks. During the first intermission, Weezer played a three-song set that featured their cover of Toto's "Africa." Judah & the Lion performed a three-song set during the second intermission. The South Bend Symphony Orchestra played the Notre Dame Victory March during team introductions. Blackhawks anthem singer Jim Cornelison, who had previously sung at the 2009 Winter Classic, performed the national anthem with the orchestra. Notre Dame legend Tim Brown handled the ceremonial puck drop. Before team introductions, Bruins legends Cam Neely, Johnny Bucyk, and Ray Bourque were honored, as were Blackhawks legends Denis Savard, Tony Esposito, Jill Mikita, and Bobby Hull. As the Blackhawks emerged from the tunnel, they were greeted by former Notre Dame football players Rocket Ismail, Brian Smith, Darius Fleming, Reggie Brooks, and Autry Denson.

NBC broadcast the game, as it has for every Winter Classic. Sportsnet simulcast the NBC feed in Canada, while TVA Sports used NBC's video for its French-language broadcast. The game was also simulcast on NBC Sports Radio, which was the network's final program before it switched to a part-time syndication service.
